The Euro arrived in Greece in  2001, and in France in 2002. Here are the Greek Euros, the 1 et 2 cents were very rare to get, they don't use them but we managed to have some
and brought them back to France !

The Greek coin of 2 € is a representation of Sparta (3rd century BC), It is Europe, a Greek  character, its name is our continent, abducted by Zeus, and metamorphosed into a white bull.

For the Olympic games, a coin of 2 Euros has been created, this is a representation of the discus thrower,

The Greek coin of 1 € represents a owl. This coin is the same as the very old 4 drachms from Athens (V century BC)

 .

The Greek coin of 50 cents.  Eleuthérios Vénizelos (1864-1936), one of the famous Greek politician, he had a very modern vision of the Greek State and the freedom of the North Greece

The Greek coin of 10 cents. Rigas Fereos-Velestinlis (1757-1798), was a Greek character from the Greek philosophers, he had the idea of a Balkan confederation free from the ottoman.

The Greek coin of 5 cents represents an oil tanker, the Greek navy.

The Greek coin of 2 cents represents a boat used during the Greek Independence war (1821-1827).

The Greek coin of 1 cent represents an Athenian boat from the Athenian democracy - the biggest one used for more than 200 years -  (V century BC).

Athens 2004 Olympic games : The XXVIIIe games from the 13th to the 29th of August 2004

The king Oenochoes lost a cart race by Pelops, he celebrated his victory by organizing some  sport games at Olympia. According to others sources, This is Heracles who created the games.
There was a universal peace during the games, it lasted one month, all the war and hostilities were stopped. The winners did not have money but a crowd of white olive
tree: the laureate.
Created in 776 BC, they happened to 393 AC, they were forbidden under the Romans
, Emperor theodosius, who found them too pagan. the interval was of 4 years between every games.
Thanks to Pierre de Coubertin, the games re-appeared in Athens in 1896, in 2004, the games will be back on their native land.
In every souvenirs shops, we found the dolls and the official mascots of the games Phivos and Athina (brother and sister). Those mascot's look like the same dolls in the antic Greece,
their name came from the Greek mythology : Phoebus - nickname of Apollo - God of the music and light, and Athena, goddess of the wisdom and protector of Athens.
